Your Journey to a Successful Career

How to Impress for Success in a Tough Job Interview

Every employee needs to develop a profile at work. What this generally means, is you have a career goal that you build a profile around so you can move to other jobs within a company or you can take your profile to a new job.

Your career profile at work is something that you will continually upgrade as you gain more knowledge in certain jobs and it will be created with all of the information you need to move forward.

Another way that people think about this is to create a personal brand. A personal brand builds upon your skills and abilities and moves you forward into other positions. It is a compilation of what makes you look great in the eyes of the company and it can be used to leverage your success.

Here are a few tips to help you develop your profile at work:

Start by looking at yourself — many people forget that the first place to start when they are developing a profile is to take a personal look at their strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes companies will have you take personality profiles and this can be a place to start. Think about personal achievements and what you have done to get where you are currently.

Set clear goals

Set goals for what you want to achieve in the workplace and where you want to go and how you are going to get there. Set your sights high.

Always do good work

When you are creating your profile you want to build a reputation for always doing good work. No matter the product, you will increase your visibility by showing what you can do and by meeting deadlines.

Emphasize your uniqueness

Everyone has a way of doing something that makes them unique and sets them apart from others. Make sure that people know how your work compares to others and how you set yourself apart from them.

Ask for feedback

Always ask for feedback from your boss, from customers, other networking partners or colleagues. This is not about asking how your doing but rather what they like about what you have done. From this feedback, you will know whether you are on target with what you want as you develop your profile at work.

Stay visible

If you want someone to know about your work you have to let them know what you are doing. You can volunteer to head committees, write articles in your company newsletter, or you can start a blog about what you are doing in the company. All of these work to create a strong profile.

When you develop your profile at work, you can be sure that your goals are achieved. People will notice you because you are visible and this will set you apart from others. When the promotions match your skills someone will notice and ask you to be a part of the team.
